Dividing Colors: War & Rights
Dividing Colors is part of an ongoing Fine Art Book Series involving students and faculty in the Art & Design department at Utah Valley University. The design and assembly of these books comprise an entire year of work and represent well over ten thousand man-hours. This project started as a look back at the history of the Civil War. So many varied experiences, thoughts, ideas, and reactions to the circumstances leading up to and following the Civil War led to many more questions raised than answered. Thus, the book, like the conflicts it covers, explores issues yet unresolved. Issues that are essential to be collectively improved upon to keep progressing as humans and Americans. Dividing Colors: War & Rights received a Juror Cash Award in the 2019 Design Arts Utah exhibit in Salt Lake City and two Silver Medals in the Book and Post- Secondary Student categories of the 2019 Print Rocks competition. It also won the IPPY Cover Design Non-Fiction Silver Medalist in 2020. The Independent Publisher Book Awards receives more than 2,000 publishers and around 5,000 titles submitted for consideration, and we were proud to win these awards.
